A private day excursion from Agadir into the edge of the Saharan landscape south and east of the Souss valley, typically driving to the Erg Chegaga or Erg Chigaga outliers or the pre-Saharan dunes near Tata or Tiznit over around 2 to 3 hours each way. As a private tour, the itinerary is more flexible than a group day trip - departure time, pace, and stops are agreed directly with your driver-guide. The route passes through dramatic Anti-Atlas mountain scenery, traditional Berber villages, oasis palmeries, and eventually the first real dune fields as the landscape dries east of the mountains. A stop for mint tea with a local family or at a desert camp is usually built into the midday period. Lunch is either a packed box or a tagine at a small village restaurant depending on the operator. Return to Agadir by early evening. This is a long day in a vehicle - upward of 6 to 7 hours of driving across the full outing - and is best enjoyed by travellers genuinely interested in the landscape rather than those primarily wanting desert photo opportunities.
