On paper, this is one of the most interesting logistics in our Moroccan tour collection. Instead of yet another minivan day trip, you board Africa’s first high-speed train - the Al Boraq - for the Casablanca to Tangier run, arriving in about two hours at speeds up to 320 km/h. Tangier exploration and a camel ride follow. The concept is genuinely appealing. The 4.5 rating suggests the execution does not quite match the promise.
What actually happens
You are collected from your Casablanca hotel and driven to Casa-Voyageurs station for the Al Boraq train. The journey to Tangier takes roughly two hours - a dramatic improvement over the five-hour conventional train or the four-hour drive. Once in Tangier, a guide takes you through the medina, the kasbah, the Strait of Gibraltar viewpoints, and the caves of Hercules. A camel ride is included, though the listing does not clarify where this happens or for how long. The return is by the same high-speed train, with hotel drop-off back in Casablanca. The whole operation takes 12 hours.
Our honest take
The 4.5 rating is borderline for our recommendations. It is not bad, but it sits at the threshold where we start asking what is going wrong. The most likely culprits: the day is extremely packed, and 12 hours of trains, transfers, sightseeing, and a camel ride is exhausting. Tangier deserves more than a few rushed hours - it is a city with genuine depth, and cramming it into a day trip (even by fast train) inevitably means you skim the surface. The camel ride feels like it was added to bulk up the itinerary rather than because it makes organic sense in Tangier. At EUR125, you are paying a premium that is partly justified by the train tickets (which are not cheap) and partly by the guide and logistics. But if you are already spending EUR125 and a full day, you might be better served by an overnight trip to Tangier that lets you actually absorb the place. The train experience itself, however, is brilliant and worth doing at least once while in Morocco.
Who should book this

- Travellers with limited time in Morocco who want to experience both Casablanca and Tangier
- Anyone fascinated by the Strait of Gibraltar and Tangier’s position as a cultural crossroads
- Visitors who have already explored Casablanca and want a change of scenery for a day
Who should skip this

Rating: 4.5/5 from 42 verified reviews
The rating context: A 4.5 is our threshold for honest concern. Higher-rated Casablanca day trips exist, and the rushed Tangier itinerary likely explains the lower scores. If the train experience is your primary motivation, this works. If Tangier is your primary motivation, consider staying overnight instead.
Practical tip: The Al Boraq train has first and second class. Confirm which class is included in your booking. Bring snacks for the train - the onboard options are limited. Tangier’s medina involves steep hills and uneven ground, so wear sturdy shoes.
