The Agadir cable car, known locally as the télépherique, links the lower seafront area with the Oufella hillside above the city, where the ruins of the old kasbah sit. The ride up takes around 5 minutes and rises steeply, giving a broadening view over the bay, the port, the palm-lined promenade, and the Atlantic as you ascend. At the top, the kasbah ruins date from the 17th century and were devastated in the 1960 earthquake; the walls are preserved but the interior is largely rubble, with inscriptions visible on the surviving gate. The panoramic view from the summit is the main draw - on a clear morning you can see south along the coast for 30 km and inland toward the foothills of the Anti-Atlas. There is a small cafe at the top. The return journey by cable car takes the same 5 minutes. Allow 45 to 60 minutes in total including time at the top. Tickets are bought on-site; queues are short outside peak season. The télépherique does not run in strong winds, which can cause closures without notice - worth checking locally on the morning of your visit. Suitable for all ages and fitness levels.
